Katie and Craig are two of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. They're kind, so easy going, and exactly the type of people you would expect to meet in the midwest. Although their wedding day was a rainy one, they didn't let that put a damper their wedding celebrations, and they'll without a doubt be telling their story for many years to come.
Katie and Craig met while she was working as a waitress at a local sports bar.
"One day, Craig came in and ordered a beer. We talked about hockey and music and Denzel Washington, and we pretty much knew that was it. We've been a package deal ever since."
Their proposal story totally encompasses their easy going attitude as a couple; sweet, simple, but not without the romance!
"Craig called me one day while I was at work to tell me he was in the parking lot and that I should come outside for 'just a second.' I stepped outside to find his car idling in the handicap spot, and when I approached, I noticed that he was sweating. He wouldn't take off his sunglasses. He handed me a bag from Shane Co. and said 'are we going to do this?' and I said 'you bet!' "
Their personalities spilled out into their wedding day. They included DIY wedding decor, keeping the over all theme classic and low key.
"We had some country inspiration and integrated some classy elements, which we thought mixed well. We used Jack Daniels bottles and hydrangeas for center pieces, and we all wore Converse shoes, but we balanced it out with some bling and sparkle."
Their wedding ceremony took place outdoors, at a park over looking the river.
"We chose to get married at park down the street from our house because we take our kids there all the time. We are huge hockey fans, so we took our pictures at Scottrade... the Blues were preparing for playoffs, so we got some pretty great pictures with the banners outside of the venue."
Katie and Craig's wedding day was full of unforgettable moments.
"The rain held off until the moment I walked out with my dad. It immediately started pouring down, sideways at times. But we looked out at our guests while we stood there, and not a single person had moved from their seat. It was, for us, an obvious declaration of their love and support of us as a couple."
Katie's other favorite moment happened during Craig's wedding vows to her daughter.
"When Craig knelt down and said his "vows" to my daughter, I couldn't hold back the tears. And, of course, our first kiss as husband and wife in the pouring rain. The whole day was amazing."
Katie and Craig offer future couples some solid wedding advice.
"Don't stress about anything. This day is what you make of it, so don't zero in and focus on what could go wrong. Nothing will be perfect, and that's what will make it so perfect."
